Susan and Robert Wyllie packed their bags for Rarotonga and never looked back. That was 10 years ago and now they have a thriving skincare business based on ‘cold-pressed’ coconut oil; using local ingredients and providing employment to support the local economy.
Freshly fallen coconuts are collected from around the island by Robert and his team before being taken back to Rito HQ in Tikioki for processing. Every part of the coconut is utilised in the extraction process – the flesh is grated into meal to dry and the husks are used as fuel for the fire beneath the drying table; ultimately the pressed meal is returned to participating land owners as food for livestock.
